The dining restaurant looked modern and food was excellent. But I am not a natural hot spring water expert. The spa water was very clear and didn't have the natural hot spring smell. But the spa water (except for one onsen) didn't seem to be real hot spring water. Both the onsens and the dining areas were in the new block. Unfortunately I didn't have a look of the rooms in the new block. But I guess most of the rooms of hotels around the lake were looking direct across the lake. The best thing about the room was the big windows looking directly across the lake. The room's cleanliness was alright but the old furniture and the cigarette smell made it less clean. All the furniture looked really old except for the Japanese furniture. Other uncomfortable things in the room were the stains on the carpet, the crooked toilet door, the green color marble wall and floor of the toilet, a rusty scale, etc. Again, the decorations were totally out of date and gave us a back to the old days feeling. Each room can accommodate 5 people (3 futons and 2 single beds). Our rooms were very spaces with both western and Japanese styles. When we went into the old block, we knew the old block was built ages ago (probably it was very grand 30 years ago). However, we were assigned to the old block (Crystal Block) with one big room, and two rooms had interlocking door in-between.
The entrance and the reception foyer were beautiful and new.
My family and another family stayed in the Toya Sunpalace for one night.
